The county is bounded by the Catawba River and Sugar Creek to the west and the Lynches River to the east. Many of our new homes in Lancaster County are spread near the county seat at Lancaster. The area is known for its long history, beginning with the Catawba Indians, and boasts numerous National Historic Landmark sites, many dating back to the time of the Revolutionary War. Our local Lancaster County home developments are near the upscale Ballantyne district of Charlotte, a complex that offers upscale shopping, a large corporate park and a popular resort and spa. Lancaster County provides a world of recreational activities, especially for those who love the great outdoors.
The Anne Springs Close Greenway offers a wide range of recreational activities and educational programs. Boating ramps at Lake Crandall and Stumpy Pond can be used for kayaks and canoes, or boaters can rent kayaks at Lake Haigler. Experienced mountain bikers can obtain a trail map of the biking trails at the complex. Many area lakes, including Crandall, Frances and Katherine, are stocked with bass and catfish for anglers. Visitors are invited to walk the historical trails, like the old Great Philadelphia Wagon Road that stretched from Philadelphia to Augusta, Georgia, where wagon wheel markings and log cabins from 1800 can still be seen.
