Lancaster is conveniently situated withing an hour of the state capital city of Harrisburg and an hour to the east is Philadelphia. Primary industries include health care, tourism, public administration, and manufacturing. Lancaster General Hospital System is the highest employer for the area. Millersville University and Franklin and Marshall College are also prominent higher education providers in Lancaster.

The Spooky Nook Facility is a mega youth sports destination renowned around the entire country for its soccer, field hockey, flag football, basketball, and volleyball tournaments. The U.S Women’s Field Hockey Team calls Spooky Nook their home. A wide array of shops are available in Lancaster, with the famous Lancaster Outlets comprised of the Tanger Outlet corporation and the Shops at Rochvale. These two shopping outlet destinations account for over 160 stores and restaurants in the area. Lancaster Central Market is the oldest operated famers market in the U.S., specializing in handmade Amish goods. Dutch Wonderland is a popular amusement attraction for the young ones with rides and slides for the whole family. Catch a minor league baseball game while rooting on your local Lancaster Stormers, and attend the Fulton Opera House where you can see the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra perform in one of the oldest theaters in the U.S. The Ware Center on the campus of Millersville University is also a great place to catch a concert or live theater performance.
